Method
 

Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Slice your floury potatoes thinly, about 1/8 inch thick. Arrange them in a bowl.
  3. Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Sauté onions and garlic for 5–7 minutes.
  4. In a greased baking dish, layer the sliced potatoes, sprinkling salt between layers.
  5. In another bowl, mix milk and cream, then pour it over the layered potatoes.
  6. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 15–20 minutes until the top is golden.
  8. Let the gratin rest for 10–20 minutes before serving.
