  • 2 medium apples peeled and diced finely
  • 300 g mixed dried fruits (sultanas, currants, cranberries, etc.) mix various dried fruits for complex flavor

  • 1 medium orange zest
  • 1 medium lemon zest and juice using fresh lemons gives the best results

  • 1 teaspoon ground mixed spice sub with pumpkin spice if desired
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon optional for milder spice

  • 150 g soft brown sugar coconut sugar can be a great alternative
  • 100 g butter replace with plant-based margarine for vegan option
Flavor Enhancement
  • 50 ml brandy use fruit juice for non-alcoholic alternative

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Start by peeling, coring, and finely dicing 2 medium apples. Place the diced apples into a large mixing bowl.
  2. Zest and juice one lemon and one orange. Set the zest aside and juice will enhance flavor.
  3. In a large saucepan over low heat, combine the diced apples, citrus zest and juice, mixed dried fruits, ground mixed spice, ground cinnamon, and soft brown sugar. Stir in butter until well-coated.
  4. Gently heat the mixture for about 10–15 minutes, stirring regularly until ready and fragrant.
  5. Remove saucepan from heat and cool for about 10 minutes. Stir in brandy or fruit juice.
  6. Spoon the vegetarian mincemeat into sterilized jars, seal tightly, and store appropriately.
