Ingredients

For the Cookie Dough
  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour Look for flour with at least 11% protein for optimal texture.
  • 1 large Egg Using room temperature eggs helps achieve better incorporation.
  • 1 cup Butter Always use softened butter for easier mixing and tenderness.
  • 3/4 cup Granulated Sugar Don't skimp on this for the best taste!
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Feel free to switch it up with almond extract for a nutty twist.
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt Omit if using salted butter, but consider a touch for flavor enhancement.
For the Filling
  • 1/2 cup Nutella Warm it slightly for easier spreading.

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Rolling Pin
  • Parchment paper
  • Baking Sheet
  • sharp knife

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Start by placing the all-purpose flour and softened butter into a large mixing bowl. Mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Add in the egg, granulated sugar, salt, and vanilla extract, and mix until the dough almost comes together.
  3. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently until smooth, about 2 minutes.
  4. Shape it into a disc, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  5. Once chilled, roll the dough into a rectangle approximately 7x11 inches in size.
  6. Gently spread the softened Nutella over the rolled-out dough, leaving a 1/2 inch border.
  7. Starting from the long side, carefully roll the dough into a tight log and wrap in plastic wrap.
  8. Refrigerate again for another 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) while the log is chilling.
  10. Slice the log into 1/2 inch thick pieces and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  11. Bake for about 20 minutes, then cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
