  • 12 rolls Raw Frozen Dinner Rolls Look for Rhodes or a similar brand for best results.
For the Filling
  • 1 package Fully Cooked Breakfast Sausage Turkey sausage can be a lighter alternative.
  • 4 large Eggs Consider using egg whites for a healthier option.
  • 1/4 cup Heavy Cream or Milk Substitute with non-dairy milk for a lactose-free treat.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Onion Powder Optional for flavor enhancement.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt Essential for seasoning.
  • 1/4 teaspoon Pepper Freshly ground pepper gives the best flavor.
  • 1 cup Cheddar Cheese Any good melting cheese, like American or mozzarella, works well too.
For the Topping
  • 1 tablespoon Everything Bagel Seasoning You can swap it with sesame or poppy seeds if desired.

Equipment

  • Baking Sheet
  • Non-stick skillet
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Plastic Wrap
  • Parchment paper

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange 12 frozen dinner rolls, spaced one inch apart. Cover them with Saran Wrap to prevent drying out. Allow the dough to rise in a warm place for about 20 minutes, or until they become soft and puffy.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, onion powder, salt, and pepper until well combined. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and pour in the egg mixture. Stir gently until the eggs are just set but still slightly runny. Fold in the defrosted breakfast sausage.
  3. Once the dough has risen, gently flatten and stretch each roll into a 3-inch circle. Place a tablespoon of shredded cheddar cheese and 2 tablespoons of the egg and sausage mixture in the center of each circle. Pinch the dough edges together firmly.
  4. Pour some everything bagel seasoning into a shallow dish. Carefully dip the tops of each kolache into the seasoning. Place the shaped kolaches back on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them at least two inches apart. Allow to rise for another 30 minutes while preheating your oven to 350°F.
  5. Bake the kolaches for 15-17 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top. After removing them from the oven, let them cool on the baking sheet for about 10 minutes before enjoying.
